INTRODUCTION. Management of severe aphasia often focuses on training nonverbal augmentative communication strategies such as the use of communication books, computerized systems, gestures, writing, or drawing. However, results of studies aimed at training these compensatory strategies have been less than optimal (Purdy, Duffy, & Coelho, ; Robson, Pring, Marshall, .   The modified program, Multimodal Communication Program for Aphasia (MCPA) treated only 10 concepts (nouns) instead of 20 concepts (nouns and verbs), thus shortening the length of each session. Furthermore, the modified program included instruction in a drawing modality, in addition to the four MCT modalities (i.e., speaking, writing, gesturing.

Multimodal projects can be very complex, and it may be necessary to devote a significant amount of in-class time to practicing and discussing principles of composing through alternative modalities (for example, by giving opportunities to learn visual design skills through activities or . This is a multimodal essay that I use with my English II students. Multimodal just means that this assignment requires students to compose using language AND several nontraditional modes of communication as well, such as movie clips, audio, and images. .

Heterogeneous multimedia cooperative annotation is a relatively new, yet difficult problem. There are few publicly available datasets. To verify the performance of heterogeneous media cooperative annotation, we construct a dataset containing images, videos, audios, and 3D models and their associated text labels. Creating digital multimodal texts involves use of communication technologies, however, multimodal texts can also be paper based, or live performances. The Victorian Curriculum recognises that students need to be able to create a range of increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written, and multimodal texts for different purposes and.

A multimodal learning style works most effectively with many communication inputs, or modes. A multimodal learner will thrive in a comprehensive learning environment that uses visual, auditory and kinesthetic inputs — both verbal and non-verbal — including videos, images, actions, real-life examples and hands-on activities.

Multimodality describes communication practices in terms of the textual, aural, linguistic, spatial, and visual resources used to compose messages. While all communication, literacy, and composing practices are and always have been multimodal, academic and scientific attention to the phenomenon only started gaining momentum in the s.
